About the Department

The inception of Department of Science and Humanities perpetrates to embolden novel and research ideas among the students and members of faculty. The department serves as a fulcrum for the disciplines of English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

The department has been accomplished with fantabulous infrastructure with avant-garde lab facilities to enrich the learning process among students. Conferences, and workshops are periodically organized to acculturate the technical adroit and thereby, to offer empirical comprehension on the prelation in the respective fields. Having intertwined the void in between the school and college, the department holds an indispensable role in organizing Bridge Course aiming at the integrated amelioration among students.

Necessity to pursue post-graduate studies

In a tough world for the IT-enabled industries in India, the onus on the computer engineers will be to not only develop cost effective solutions to the impending problems but also provide quality services through core technology development. A post-graduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering is invariably essential if one aspires to set himself aside in a honeycomb mass of “computer professionals” and to play a stellar role in transforming the industry, be it through research, advanced development, teaching, or entrepreneurship.

About the English Department

The English department of Panimalar Engineering College focuses on training students in Communicative English and prepare them in soft skills thereby honing their language skills and be placement-ready. The department caters to developing the proficiency of English among under-graduate and post-graduate students. They are trained effectively for their placement and also given a certified course in BEC collaborating with British Council, Chennai. The other certificate course offered is APTIS that helps the students find placements in various companies like TCS, CTS, Infosys, etc… APTIS is a world-wide recognized certificate that is accepted by various organizations, ministries, multi-national corporations and other sectors.

The faculty members are well trained and competent to improvise the language proficiency of the students and make them industry-ready and enrich them in their LSRW skills thereby allowing the students to be effective in language skills in the real world.

Bridge course is conducted for the I year B.E/B.Tech students especially from vernacular medium schools to bridge the gap between school and college education. Classes for Lateral entry students are conducted to ease the students into the main stream Engineering. Placement classes are piloted every year to improvise the employability skills of every student.

About the Subject

English is the lingua franca of the world and it is essential in the Business world. The language bridges cultural gaps across diverse background enabling communication throughout the world. Its significance is widely felt in the industry, academia and the other sectors. Technological advancements and innovations in Engineering can be communicated competently through the language. The importance of the language is widely accepted by various industries and learning the language proficiently is pre-requisite of any engineering graduate. It connects and provides access to a wealth of information and opens up doors to a wider range of opportunities. English is essential for employability skills and it becomes mandatory for any student to use English in the most proficient manner.

Language Laboratory

There are 3 Communication Skills laboratory and 3 AV Halls for practising speaking and listening skills. The curriculum has an integrated lab that provides holistic learning and equips the students with all the four basic language skills like Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The students have sessions on understanding presentation skills and also have group discussion sessions that help them in their placements. Mock-interviews are held to train the students on their big day. Students are trained in creating e-magazines and podcasts.

Our communication laboratory has a user-friendly atmosphere and provides students with equal audio-visual clarity and the ability to elevate their communication skills to an advanced level. The language laboratory is an excellent resource for practicing and evaluating one's speech in the English language. It has a feature that allows the students to listen to model pronunciation and do self-assessments.

About the Mathematics Department

The Department of Mathematics was founded in 2000 with a primary mission to offer comprehensive education in Mathematics, focusing on its practical applications in engineering. It caters to students at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, aiming to establish a robust understanding and proficiency in mathematical principles essential for engineering disciplines.

The Department of Mathematics comprises 34 faculty members, 20 of whom possess doctoral degrees. They specialize in diverse research fields such as Algebra, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Graph Theory, Fuzzy Set Theory, Queuing Theory, Functional Analysis, Stochastic Processes, Sampling Theory, and Topology. This breadth of expertise enables the department to provide extensive academic instruction and lead innovative research across a wide spectrum of mathematical disciplines.

The Department of Mathematics continually enhances its contributions to the mathematical community through the infinite thinkers (Maths Club) with the help of organization by conducting various events. These include frequent workshops, Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), and other academic gatherings aimed at fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and advancing research in mathematics. These initiatives not only enrich the academic environment within the department but also promote the exchange of ideas and the exploration of new avenues in mathematical theory and applications.

Welcome to Department of Physics

Engineering Physics is the broadest and most basic of all engineering programs. Engineers use physics principles to study the behaviour of materials under different conditions, to design new materials with specific properties, and to develop new fabrication techniques to modulate these materials. The Department of Physics at Panimalar Engineering College, Chennai, established in 2000, is now one of the largest and most active in this institution. Our department is thus well known for its core undergraduate (B.E./B.Tech). We have 23 faculty members expertise in various discipline areas of modern physics, traditional and emerging, working on problem solving of foundational and applied novel research interest. Further, our quants cause of research in frontier areas with their relentlessly contributions, by being a part of Centre of Excellence seeded by our Institution. We teach and train the future budding engineers, substantially quantum computing, space science, AI based predictive modelling, simulation, optimization, and even the discovery of new physics is one of our major goal.

The department has continued this tradition of excellence and has now become an internationally recognised centre for research in computational physics, nanoscience, crystallography, molecular modelling, molecular dynamics, drug design, structural biology and condensed matter physics. Members of our faculty have collaborated with numerous national and international research institutions. The faculty members highly contributed in research, they are published more than 200 Research article in highly indexing Journal (SCI, SCIE, WOS, PubMed, Scopus and Publons etc.). Subsequently, they are serving the Reviewer & Editorial Board Member in well-established and recognized journal (Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis etc.).

About Physics Laboratory

To gain the knowledge of engineering and technological concepts requires a solid understanding of physics. The Physics Lab at PEC is well furnished with the newest instruments and gadgets. There is more than 15 experiments setup in our laboratory, which is related to various fields of Physics such as optics, semi-conductors, and strength of materials, thermal and applied electrical-electronics. The goal of the experiments conducted in practical physics is to produce precise quantitative data. Through a lab experiment, students can become acquainted with a variety of instruments that they have read about in theory and that are used in engineering, industry, and daily life.

About the Maths Club

Our math club, inaugurated on August 30, 2023, which was named as Infinite Thinkers that aims to cultivate a passion for mathematics among engineering students through engaging activities and collaborative learning opportunities. Infinite Thinkers provide a platform for students to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts relevant to engineering disciplines. This includes both theoretical concepts and practical applications. Math clubs often organize problem-solving sessions or competitions. These activities help students sharpen their problem-solving skills, which are crucial in engineering. Also we offer opportunities for students to meet and collaborate with peers who share an interest in mathematics. This can lead to forming study groups, sharing resources, and exchanging ideas. We invite guest speakers, including professors or industry professionals, to deliver talks or workshops on advanced mathematical topics or their applications in engineering. The following events have been conducted so far.
