Introduced in 1969, the National Service Scheme (NSS) aims to develop the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service, embodying the principle of 'Education through Service.' Rooted in the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, the NSS motto, "NOT ME, BUT YOU", reflects the selfless commitment of volunteers prioritizing the community over self.
NSS aims to foster the development of key qualities and competencies among volunteers, aligning with its core objective of 'Personality development through community service'. These include:
a) Understanding the community and their own role within it;
b) Identifying and engaging in solving community needs and issues;
c) Cultivating a sense of social and civic responsibility;
d) Applying knowledge for practical solutions to individual and community
problems;
e) Acquiring skills in mobilizing community participation;
f) Developing leadership qualities and democratic values;
g) Building the capacity to respond to emergencies and natural disasters;
h) Practicing national integration and social harmony.
NSS seeks to establish meaningful connections between 'Campus and Community', 'College and Village', and 'Knowledge and Action'. The list of activities and snapshots of selected recent activities are provided in the links below.
The institution imparts the mentality of social service to students by involving them in various schemes like NSS and YRC. Such activities are not nascent but are in vogue since their inception in January 2004 with a humble strength of 50 students.
